Day 142 .... 02.10.13 ... Atherstone

This morning was a wet and drizzly day which, at this time of year is only to be expected.  But it became not at all bad as the day went on. This is some wharf buildings being converted at the junction to Birmingham and Coventry.

................................ the countryside was lovely in spite of the weather.  This is a typical view..............

............... we ended up a good day's cruising at Atherstone.  This is an old town which used to be on the main A5 and prior to that the Roman Watling Street which went direct from London to Wales and of course on which Stony Stratford lies.  Feels as if we are getting nearer to the original base !! The layout of the town is even similar to Stony !!

Tomorrow we shall be going up throgh the rest of the locks in Atherstone and on to Hawkesbury Junction where we rejoin the North Oxford Canal to go down to Braunston
