Day 65 .... !6.07.13 .... Dorchester-on-Thames 2
We decided that we would stay put and have a better look around the Dorchester-on-Thames area. It is also extremely hot and better to do small amounts of this and that !!! When we moored we made some new friends who were very curious .............
We got the bikes out and cycled to the next village up the Thames called Clifton Hampden ...
this turned out to be a picture postcard village with a few thatched cottages, a post office, a pub and a church. What else do you need ? (Apart from a tescos !!!)
Dorchester had fascinated us because of the variety of archaeological finds there. So we cycled back and found the dig in full swing. Neither of us had seen a proper dig before ..... this is being carried out by Oxford Uni. and students and volunteers from the village. As I said yesterday it is mind-boggling what they have found and how they piece it all together.
Another pic of the High Street in Dorchester-on-Thames
and finally for the day a hill fort on the way back ....................
and our bovine friends who had been looking after the boat. In the shade !!
We shall be leaving them tomorrow !!!
