Here we are saying goodbye to Devizes which we have enjoyed
back in to the rural scenery and the first swing bridge in the distance
the reedy stretches are lovely approaching Honeystreet ......
and this is the Vale of Pewsey
We were lucky enough to arrive at Crofton Pumping Station when they had the
Stokers Stoking and the Chimney Smoking
A very hot day to be doing this
Good to meet up with Julia's parents Roy and Phillippa ....... needless to say we couldn't stop them working !!! ....... after a pint of Vale Ale
Yet more good rotary actions on the lock handles!!!
Back to the dreaded swing bridge/lock combination but not so bad in the sunshine and without the cows!!!!
and with another boat
entering in to Hungerford which is lovely
could not believe that this is like a Horsefair Green in Stony ( for those of you that know it) Happened upon the start of their Art Fest and went to a good evening listening to Jazz in the local church
Great evening !!!
On the way out of Hungerford on a beautiful morning
en route spotted a superb VW Camper Van. On closer inspection a TENT.
This fellow was pulling a trip boat up the canal and had a rest while we passed through. A Welsh Cob Shire Horse.
and amazingly for all those who have passed by Newbury and cursed the name in a traffic jam ..... this is the idyllic centre. With no traffic and pedestrianised!!!!
hopefully back to normal tomorrow on the way to Reading and La Tamise.
