Day 89 .... 09.08.13 .... Market Harborough

Another pleasant day after a good few showers through the night.  Had to wait at the top of the flight for an hour or so for the boats coming up and then set off down.  As can be seen gentle and idyllic until the third lock which had a large leak ..................................................

............ I got somewhat drenched as I had to reverse the boat into the leak to get the bottom gates open. Did feel somewhat nervous about water going into the engine but I had cleaned out the drainage gutters the day before and so it wasn't the  problem I thought it might be

.............. the pound to Market Harborough was again very rural but more enclosed with willows and rushes.  Lovely

..................... this chap amused us as he had his boat set up as an office.  Hope his Internet is more reliable than ours on the go !!

...................Market Harborough Marina was a pleasant surprise.  Well laid out and quite historic in that the first meeting of the IWA for the renovation of the canals was held here in 1950.

............ We moored a bit out and cycled in to find a hive of activity and people bing talked through the inticacies of hiring and using a boat.

Cycled on into the centre of Market Harborough.  This is the old Grammar School which was used as such until the early 20th C. and is now a meeting Hall.  The bit below was a butter market.
