Day 98 .... 18.08.13 .... Loughborough

Happily this was the sign we passed on our way through the small village of Barrow-on-Soar where we moored overnight.   As I've already said the water level can change very quickly  ....  and just in case a boater cannot read .... at the first lock this morning, there is a traffic light !!

this is Barrow Deep Flood lock!!! Not sure what that means but  the green light was showing so through we went

Around the corner from there, this pub was having a "Barrow-on-Sea" weekend complete with Fair rides and a large sanded area for the children !! They are being lucky with the weather. ( Maggie has just told me to say that it was 9.30a.m.when we passed, hence the lack of people !!)

The river meanders through to Loughborough and the next pic is another one of the flood locks. It is only operational  between October and March or during wet weather in the summer. Happily today it is  open .

The last week of the River Soar has seen us passing many beds of water lilies.  So far have been unable to spot a frog on one of them ..... but you never know !!!

Tomorrow on to the Loughborough stretch to the River Trent and the Trent and Mersey Canal where we are going to pause at Shardlow which is where the boat was fitted out 10 years ago.
